Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi break MLS records, but a Premier League cult legend wins the Golden Boot instead of them.

Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez concluded the MLS regular season in an impressive manner, although they were unable to surpass Christian Benteke.

The two standout players of Inter Miami delivered outstanding performances during a 6-2 victory against New England Revolution, resulting in David Beckham's team achieving the highest points total in MLS history (74). Messi scored three goals in just 11 minutes, while Suarez contributed with two goals and two assists, showcasing the exceptional talent of the former Barcelona stars.

By both reaching 20 goals in the 2024 season, Miami made history as the first MLS team with two players achieving this feat in a single regular season.

This achievement is even more remarkable considering Messi's absence from several matches due to injury.

Suarez and the legendary Argentine player, however, lost out to former Premier League striker Benteke for the Golden Boot.

The former striker for Crystal Palace, Liverpool, and Aston Villa scored 23 goals as D.C. United placed tenth and were not eligible for the play-offs.

At thirty-three, Benteke scored a whopping forty-four percent of the goals for his side.

After joining D.C. United for £4.5 million in 2022, the Belgian has been a huge hit in the United States, scoring 38 goals in 68 games since departing Palace.

After moving from Genk to Villa in 2012 for a reported £7 million, Benteke played football in England for ten years.

During a spectacular three-year stint at Villa Park, where Liverpool met his £32.5 million release clause to sign him in 2015, he became into a cult legend.

Benteke, though, only spent one season at Anfield before moving to Crystal Palace in 2016 for a reported £27 million, even though he was then the second most expensive player in Reds history.

After six years at Selhurst Park, he left England having made 280 appearances and scored 86 goals in the Premier League.

Benteke's MLS career is officially finished, but Messi and Suarez will now attempt to win Miami's first-ever MLS Cup in the playoffs.

Beckham's team has already won the Supporters' Shield and secured a spot in the 2025 Club World Cup after winning the Eastern Conference.

But because Messi and Suarez are such strong favorites to win it all, their season will be determined between now and December 7.
