Despite his team's 3-1 loss, Jamie Vardy has once again made his mark on Premier League history.
Against Nottingham Forest on Friday night, the Leicester City striker scored his fourth goal of the Premier League season.
After just sixteen minutes, Ryan Yates gave Forest the lead. Vardy then equalized, but Chris Wood's two goals gave his team a resounding victory over their rivals at the King Power Stadium.
Vardy joined an exclusive club of former Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur great in scoring the goal.
At the age of 37 years and 288 days, he is the fourth-oldest player ever to score in back-to-back Premier League appearances.
The only players on the list positioned above the forward are Graham Alexander (38y and 28d), Ryan Giggs (39y 86d), and Teddy Sheringham (39y 350d).
Steve Cooper accepted full responsibility for his team's loss in an interview with Sky Sports following the match.
“It's self-inflicted, no doubt about that, and it's on us," he said. "We all have to take responsibility for how the game panned out.
"We made poor mistakes for the goals, no doubt about it, and we were punished for it but I just think conceding so early on in the second half was obviously not a good thing.
"There was still a lot of time for the game to settle again, us to carry on with things we were doing in the first half, improve and be the threat we wanted to be. "The third goal was just a real killer and still there was a lot of time left but the game just became a little bit of trying to get players on in certain positions, territory all that stuff, defenders on, extra attackers on, we just lost any sort of rhythm we got in the first half - we lost it completely because of scoreline so it's on us."
With his goal, Vardy has already scored more Premier League goals this season than he did during the whole 2022–2023 campaign.
Early in the first half, Yates gave Forest the lead after the Foxes botched a corner clearance effort, allowing the Forest captain to hammer the ball home from the area's edge.
Shortly after, Vardy gave Steve Cooper's team an equalizer against his old team by tucking away a beautiful cross from Harry Winks.
Forest had a fantastic start to the second half, and Wood's incredible finish put his team ahead once more.
He then made it two goals in 13 minutes after a howler from Wout Faes enabled the New Zealand international to loop a header over Leicester goalkeeper Mads Hermansen.
Forest's victory means that it is now their longest unbeaten away streak in the Premier League since 1995.
Vardy’s illustrious career in the English top-flight consists of a Premier League title, Golden Boot and FWA Footballer of the Year award.
In November 2015, he was also awarded a Guinness World Record for becoming only the fifth-ever player to win the Premier League Player of the Month trophy in consecutive months.
Friday night marked Vardy's 316th Premier League appearance; in that time, he has scored an incredible 160 goals.
After his beloved Leicester City miraculously won the league title in 2015–16, he was also voted Premier League player of the season.
